Guess what time it is? It's tea time! Put those mascara wands and eyeshadow palettes away for a minute and pour yourself a cup of tea, or at least, see what I'm drinking.
Today's featured blend is a white tea from the ever-popular Davids Tea, a major Canadian tea retailer that sells a wide variety of teas online and in stores all across Canada and in some stores in the US.
Cherry Blossom is a flavoured white tea blend that marries white and green tea together with dried cherries, coconut and rose petals. It's a tea made to celebrate and reflect upon the cherry blossom season, when people celebrate, eat and drink together below the blossoms.
Normally I'm not a huge fan of flavoured white tea, I find that it often has too delicate a nose for me, but this tea just always makes me want more. The dried cherry gives this tea a bit of a tart kick, amping up the intensity of what would otherwise be another very gentle, floral white tea. I know that cherry is a divisive ingredient in tea, some people find it medicinal in flavour while others (like me!) crave that hint of bitterness, but I find that in this instance, the cherry balances out the rest of the flavours quite nicely.
The one thing that surprised me was that most people on Steepster (yeah, it's like Untappd but for tea) seem to like to only let this steep for 5 minutes before removing the bag/infuser. I actually LOVE to prep this one in the morning and let it steep in my thermos, and ready myself to drink it at work. I find that oversteeping this tea, and maybe adding a dash of agave, makes this tea even BETTER. Because it's low caffeine, you can drink this tea pretty much anytime from day to night, unless you're extremely sensitive to caffeine that is.
My next test with this tea is to see if I make it into a successful iced tea at some point. STAY TUNED!
