There's something I have to say about the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network. They are the biggest group of enablers I know! If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have my Becca X Jaclyn Hill palette, my Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly palette, or any of my favourite lipsticks really. So for this, I have to thank them, while my wallet gently weeps.
But this enablement is what brings us here to day. About a week and a half ago there were two Bite Beauty lipstick sets swirling around Sephora, offering three of Bite's most popular nudes and bolds for the price of one. HOW WAS I TO RESIST THAT? TRULY? Bite is currently discontinuing some of their product lines to make room for the Amuse Bouche line, and it appears that the Luminous Creme is one of the ones they are slowly shuttering. Which is a shame because these colour are glorious as you will see in a second. The Nudes kit contained the three you see here - Retsina, Musk and Fig. While the Bolds kit contained Zivoli, Tannin and Mulberry which I will swatch in a following post.
So look, I'm usually a girl who goes for bold. I'm more likely to be wearing a dark plum or a bright neon pink than I am a nude lip. But as I've changed my style a bit recently (see: pink hair) I'd rather that people pay attention to my fuschia flop right now, so a nude lip may be just the way to keep all eyes on me, but on my head instead.
My goal with acquiring these three lipsticks is to replace some of the drug-store purchase I have that are languishing in my makeup drawer, with some of these high quality formulas. Let's see how I do!
Bite Beauty Luminous Creme - Retsina
Bite Beauty may call Retsina a 'natural pink' but I think I'm going to have to go with the description Temptalia provides of it being a pink-toned beige. The colour is just barely bright enough to distinguish itself from my lips, but is wildly comfortable and gives some extra shine. I call this 'my lips but barely' (yes, a play on my lips but better!) This reminds me of a Joe Fresh colour I got rid of in the April Lipstick Challenge because it couldn't mimic my lips properly and made me look too pale.
Bite Beauty Musk
This lipstick is a solid nude on me! I'm totally digging the brown-pink here and think it would totally get me a guest starring role in Beverly Hills 90210. As long as I wore a choker of course. It's not the longest-lasting colour but it fades evenly so it can easily be reapplied, and since it's the Luminous Creme collection, you lips stay pretty hydrated. This reminds me of a high-end version of this Model Co lipstick I own.
Bite Beauty Luminous Creme - Fig
Fig is absolutely one of those colours I heard about from the Canadian Beauty Blogger crew. It's universally flattering, it packs just enough light-berry-punch to draw attention to one's lips without being too bold, and duh, it's Bite so it's a high end CANADIAN product, what's not to like? But I was not expecting to like it THIS MUCH. I was so happy when I put this on and snapped it IMMEDIATELY and had a few replies pretty instantly. Needless to say, this is in my rotation now. Also doesn't hurt that it matches my hair.
Final Verdict?
This was a complete hit. I totally don't regret making this purchase at all. I'm ditching one of my NYC Lipsticks and my Model Co (both have terrible bullets, are old, and don't smell as good as Bite) with Retsina and Musk, and I don't really have anything that looks like Fig so that's a new shade for me!
