This is the sixth in my series of posts about my April Lipstick Challenge. Learn about the challenge and the rules, or check out what I wore for days 1-8, days 9-12, days 13-16 and days 17-21.
It's the last swatch post! I'm so excited! I'm so sick of lipstick swatches! I'm surprisingly not sick of lipstick though. This entire challenge is going to backfire if I don't purge some of my lippies! This week was rough because I kept forgetting to take pictures. I know, cardinal sin of the #AprilLipstickChallenge but I think after three weeks I can be excused!
Onto the final swatches!

Urban Decay - Turn On
Ugh, I love this lipstick. Urban Decay's Revolution line of lipsticks are super creamy and moisturizing and give you a great bang for your buck in the colour department. Much like F-Bomb, my other UD lippie, Turn On is a gorgeous lipstick that goes on smooth, sits neatly on your lips and doesn't flake or crust. Turn On is a great rose-pink that flatters a gently made-up face or calms down a stronger look. It's versatile and with the jojoba and avocado oil in the formula, leaves my lips pretty soft once the colour finally fades away.
Damage? $25/26 at Sephora or Shoppers Drug Mart
Hourclass Opaque Rouge - Icon
This is an amazing lip stain that basically dyes your lips a classic true red. A Hollywood starlet red. A vampy red. RED RED RED. The only problem? It dries the hell out of your lips. It's this weird double edged sword. It looks great, it lasts all night, but by the end of the day you'll have leather lips. Eeep. If you really want this colour, you can't do any better but this stain is only good if you can make sure your lips are already healthy (i.e. exfoliated and smooth) before applying. The product description claims that this is non-drying but it's a lieeee.
Damage? $12 at Sephora
L'Oreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Evangeline's Red
Sigh. Yet another disappointing L'Oreal lipstick. The Star Secrets line is a really cute idea but I just can't get behind these middling products. Evangeline's Red is weird because it's got this odd orange tone, and unfortunately because it's a sheer-er lipstick, the colour doesn't build well. I had to build so many layers it was like I had clown lipstick on my lips. It also has that sickly sweet dead-flowers smell which I noticed in a few other of my cheap L'Oreal lipsticks. I cannot abide this smell and this meh-ing level of quality.
Damage? $3 at a L'Oreal sale
Kat Von D - Adora
J'adore Adora but this lippie isn't without it's own problems. Metallic lip shades are always very tempting and visibly they look great, but their consistency is rarely... consistent. Adora is a high-maintenance colour because when you're wearing it, you need to be aware of when the colour is fading, flaking or crusting. It does happen so prepare to do a few touch-ups during the day. The payoff however? Totally worth it. This is a stunning shade that will attract attention.
Damage? $9 on sale from Sephora
Gosh Lip Lacquer - Funky Lips
This stuff smells like watermelon laffytaffy and is a cute, perky fuschia, it's not too tacky, doesn't leave flakes or crusts, and it dries to a nice stain. While it DOES transfer quite a bit, the colour remains. Overall it's a decent gloss. I received it in a sample bag for ChickAdvisor in the fall and it's rotated through my collection. But we NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS BOTTLE. It literally looks like one of Gosh's nail polish bottles, it uses a weird applicator and it seems like a lot of product is going to go to waste in the bottle.
Damage? Free for review from Gosh. I think it's $12 otherwise.
NYC Expert Last - Creamy Mauve
After seeing some rave reviews of the new matte lipsticks care of NYC, a very popular drug-store brand of discount lipsticks, I broke my own rules about cheap lipstick and came home with two. The damage? $6. And while one was a dud (the nude beige was way too orangey-buff for me) this one was a pleasant surprise. This cute bubblegum pink isn't long lasting, but the formula isn't so bad, the scent isn't bad, and it doesn't leave my lips dry when I need to reapply. *It does, however, have a terrible applicator, the lip popped off in my purse TWICE in one week. *It's a snap-top, but the lipstick doesn't fully twist down into the tube. Sigh. I guess you get what you pay for.
*Damage? *$3ish from Shoppers Drug Mart
OCC Lip Tar - Lovecraft
I've written about my love for Lovecraft before, but, despite using this lip tar colour several times since my summer review, I had a negative experience this time around. Metallics are fickle, fickle products and Lovecraft needs that IDEAL environment to really stick to your lips with any conviction. When I wore this, it turned out patchy and clumpy. I'm not sure if I just needed to roll the tube around, but the formula was grainy and didn't really give good coverage. I usually layer it over SOMETHING so maybe this product just isn't meant for bare lips, but it was weirder than usual. Others have reported similar inconsistenies with this colour too, so maybe it's just this specific formula.
Damage? $8 or $23 in a set from Sephora.
Momo Glosswear - Hot Lips
I honestly forgot I owned this lipgloss until I started putting stuff together for this challenge. I won this gloss in a contest with a basket of other goodies a few years ago, but I never used the gloss! I decided to open up the tube and give it a whirl. It's a tackier product but the colour isn't bad. I much prefer my Bite glosses for colour and my NYC for texture. It looks like this company doesn't even really exist anymore (website/social media is so old) so this gloss is probably going in the bin. Eeep.
Damage? Free! But apparently $16 online.
L'Oreal Colour Riche - Buttoned Up Red
And last but not least, the final #AprilLipstickChallenge is one of my oldest and most luxe lipstick — L'Oreal's Buttoned Up Red. This classic red is hyper-pigmented and matte matte matte. It sits on the lips and barely transfers, and it's striking at every angle. It does suffer from the sickly-sweet effect of other L'Oreal lipsticks but it's a bit different than the formula is now. This is the most worn-down lipstick I've ever had, so I don't know how much longer it'll last, but it's a beaut.
*Damage? *Probably $8-10 at Shoppers Drug Mart
