Just in case any of my readers don't know, I'm a big-city Canadian girl. And if there's one thing that Canadians know more than most is how to look stylish and awesome despite the icky and unpredictable weather outside. Our falls are cold and wet, our winters are colder, yet somehow we still manage to look good. How do we do it? Here are some of my tips.
A bold lip, any bold lip
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue or indigo! I don't follow the 'It's gotta be red' mantra for fall. Want to do a bold coral? DO IT. A bold lilac? DO IT. A plum? DO IT. Fall is one of those gorgeous seasons that has so many natural colours that you can really do your own thing. If the leaves are all kinds of colours from goldenrod to tangerine, or burgundy to brick red, why do all our lipsticks have to be the same colour?
My picks: L'Oreal Colour Riche lip gloss, Urban Decay F Bomb, Lip Tar, Kat Von D, usually layered over a moisturizing lip balm like Blistex or Kielh's.
Up your brow game
This could be as simple as using a cheapie eyebrow pencil to shade in some definition (In that case, Essence has one for $2 that you can grab at Shoppers), or a fancier kit from Benefit (they are the brow experts! Or if you don't like DIY, get a new shape from your local aesthetician. Do you suffer from absent-brows or are an over-plucker?Apparently you can also get eyebrow 'weaves' too...
My picks: My go-to for ANY brow product is Benefit Cosmetics because they have Gimmie Brow for the novice brow-creator, the Instant Brow pencil for the intermediate, and Brow Zings for those looking to amp it up.
Feed yo' face
The problem with the weather here is that one day it can be mild and wet, and another day it can be dry and cold, and your skin can really suffer for it. My solution? I treat myself with face masks, face masks, FACE MASKS. Whether they're DIY home treatments or store-bought options, I try to take care of my face and make sure it's getting all the nourishment it needs!
My picks: First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay, Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, and my own extra-special/easy home-made masks!
Soften up!
If there's one thing that I can guarantee a Canadian girl knows how to do, it's moisturize. Whether it's your face, your hands, your fingers and your toes! I always have a hand lotion in my purse, at my desk, by my bed, by the sink after doing dishes and after a shower. People constantly come to me for hand lotion because I'm a moisturizer pusher. That's when you know you're doing it right.
My picks:Kiehls Creme de Corps, L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream and Soap & Glory Butter Yourself Body Cream.
What are your tricks for getting through the fall? Yes, fall, we still have THREE WEEKS until Winter hits. Sorry to burst your bubble.
