Over the last few months I've become very obsessed with panning products. It's definitely because my No-Buy Challenge has made me take a good, hard look at my makeup stash, but also because it forces me to go through my collection and find those oldies-but-goodies I still have yet to finish, while also weeding out some of the duds I just haven't bothered to chuck. To encourage myself to take my no-buy more seriously, I dug out six products that are near their "end of days" for a makeup project pan that will take me through the rest of the summer.
The Rules
- I didn't want to use products that were almost finished already, I wanted things that I would need to CONSISTENTLY use to be able to finish by the end of summer.
- Full size products ONLY. I do a good job clearing through deluxe products as is, but I wanted to zone in on larger products that would be more of a challenge.
- If I truly don't like something and don't use it much during this challenge, I will toss it by the end of the project.
So let's see what the contenders are, shall we?
Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Cushion Corrector + Primer Duo Yellow/Green - I remember when cushion foundation products made their way from Asia to North America and I was STOKED to finally see them in the market, but my interest has waned since then. You're really paying for the packaging in these instances, and if you don't use the product exclusively, you lose a lot to the sponge or applicator it comes with. This concealer/corrector duo is the last cushion formula I have left and unless I go on a long trip, (cushion foundations are my FAVOURITE for travel) I won't be buying any more of this type in the near future.
Can I finish it? Probably. It's already soaked up quite a bit on the concealer side, so I think the corrector-green will be my goal to finish.
Smashbox High Definition Concealer Fair/Light- I received this product from a friend because the colour was too dark for her, and I was really impressed by the coverage and consistency. I used to wear a LOT more foundation and concealer than I do now and I'm actually surprised this one still has product in it. It blends really well with other products and helps conceal dark under-eye bags, blemishes, rosacea, you name it.
Can I finish it? I believe so? If not though, I think I'll chuck it because there can't be really that much left.
Benefit Instant Brow Pencil Medium - A few years ago I won a GIANT Benefit Cosmetics contest which had over $1000 of products. I managed to gift or trade about half of it to friends but I still have SOME of the products I got so very many years ago. This pencil was my first high-end brow product and it definitely helped me upgrade my brow game. Now I have a variety of powders and sticks and pots to make my brows go from boy-brow to wow but there's a soft spot in my heart for this pencil. I actually only found this in the bottom of a drawer recently, I forgot I still had it! I know it's discontinued now so what better way to send it off than to use it up over the next 5-6 weeks?
Can I finish it? Yes. If this is the only product I use on my brows for 6 weeks I think I can say goodbye.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1P - For anyone who follows news in the beauty industry, it's been a very strange year for The Ordinary and it's founder Brandon Truaxe. After allegations of weird harrasment, unlawful firings and general creepiness, the brand which is still probably beloved by many, has become a thing we only whisper about. That said, I do enjoy this foundation, so much so that I have less than 1/4th left in my container. It's lighter than my summer skintone so I mix it up with a touch of liquid bronzer and just dab it all over my face as a nice natural-looking base.
Can I finish it? Maybe? This one is a toss-up. I don't usually wear as much foundation in the summer because it's so hot, but I think it's worth a shot!
Essence Beauty on Tour Cream Blush 02 - I've been an Essence cosmetic fan ever since it landed in Shopper's Drug Mart years ago, and I have no qualms saying this Beauty on Tour blush is my favourite cream blush. I use this thing quite frequently but as we all know, cream blushes last FOREVER. This one was actually sold as a lip/blush duo so it's TECHNICALLY expired (lol) but I ONLY use this as a blush, and this thing has never touched my lips. Cheeks only! Fun fact about this blush, it was part of a JUSTIN BIEBER COLLECTION that like, was very very VAGUE about the branding. I think in Canada it wasn't an "official" collab, as it was in Europe so the displays didn't have Justin but online they did.
Can I finish it? Definitely not, but I'd love to make more of a dent in it. Also I love cream blushes in the summer.
Essence Mountain Calling Translucent Powder - I'm going to say something controversial but I don't caaaaare. I honestly don't see a huge difference between high-end pressed, and drug-store ones like Essence. As somebody who has combination skin, I CANNOT do things other people do like bake my face because I tend to get dry on the upper cheekbones/contour area on my face, while I get greasy on my nose/forehead. So my translucent powder is more of a "stop looking oily, girl!" than anything else. That said, I do like to use translucent powder to help lightly "set" makeup in the summer. I have about 4-5 different powders but this one is the one I've used the most often.
Can I finish it? Probably not but I think I can make more of a dent in it if I only use this product the rest of the summer.
Benefit Sugar Bomb Blush - This was another product I received when I won my giant Benefit beauty package. I donated/traded away some of my products but this Sugar Bomb was one of the few blushes I kept, and after 5 years I'm finally nearing it's end. When I got this, I only had pale/light blush products and this one gave me more of a plum/rose flush. What I liked about it is you could swirl around all four colours or kinda dip into them carefully individually. I Do NOT enjoy the brush however, and have been using a baby kabuki brush for it instead, but I do love this blush.
Can I finish it? I don't think I can finish it but I think I can make that pan BIGGER by the end of the 5-6 weeks of this challenge.
And that's it! Think I can finish some of these by early September? Let me know in the comments if you're doing a summer makeup project pan too!
