The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask Review
When I was a teenager, I was a Body Shop fanatic. I purchased their winter collection every year, would always have a hand cream in my bag, and expoused the benefits of their hemp hand protector. But I've never ventured into their skincare line... until now. I've heard really good things about the cleaning power of their face masks and decided that my next Body Shop purchase would be something to combat my oily summer skin.
I'm a Love Your Body member and while wandering down the street the other day, saw that my local Body Shop store had a 40% off sale, so naturally I dropped in and grabbed the Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask, a mini Cocoonut Body Scrub, and a mini of the Vitamin E moisturizer.
That evening, I cleansed by face with my Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming cleanser, patted my face dry, and used a two-finger scoop to get enough clay to cover my face with a thin layer. But within mere minutes of putting on the mask, I knew something wasn't right. Several of my clay-based masks have ingredients that cause a little bit of tingling as the mask does its magic, but this wasn't mere tingling, it was more like BURNING.
I tried a new mask today & it went from cuteness to frantically rinsing my face with cold water to stop the burning. pic.twitter.com/fykS41jhuP

I had the mask on for less than 10 minutes, and it still hadn't completely dried, and I was frantically rinsing it off every inch of my face. A quick glance at Makeup Alley reveals that a lot of other people had the same reaction. I was kicking myself for not spot-testing first, as I usually do, but I've never had a reaction this strong so I was pretty shocked!
The frustrating part was that it actually seemed to draw out a lot of the excess oil in my nose, but at what cost? My skin was still sore and irritated a few hours later and the following morning.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to return this item and continue my quest for a good go-to non-Glamglow, clay mask. Any suggestions for me?
