Summer in the City: Nair Wax Ready-Strips Review

Nair Wax Ready-Strips Legs & Body

Welcome to the second of many installments of a new series that I'm calling Summer in the City! As we all know, there are beauty and personal care things that are specific to the seasons. This could be parched and brittle skin in the winter, sensitive eyes and tear-ducts during spring and oily skin in the summer! You may have seen my first installment last week about Coppertone, but this addresses another problem you may have - pesky, hard to remove hair. Who can help?

Nair's Wax Ready-Strips Legs & Body!

Full disclosure, from the months of November to April, I RARELY shave my legs. I let my hair grow free as it spends most of it's time in pants, or tights. But in the summer I usually shave on a weekly basis. I'm not too finicky, a little stubble or a hair here or there doesn't bother me, but I definitely have DARK hair that grows in and is very visible on my legs so I like to do it, but I know many friends who don't, to each their own!

I tested these strips on my legs this time around, because I haven't ever waxed my face and while I do have some peach fuzz that gets gunked up in my foundation, I figured an expert should probably do that first.

Oh, did I mention I haven't waxed since I was in high school?

But really, this kit comes with 20 double sided strips of wax, four post-wax wipes full of soothing botanicals and very easy-to-read instructions. It took me about thirty minutes between my hemming and hawing, but even a newbie like me managed to do a fairly decent job on my gams, just in time for a party this weekend!

Nair Wax Ready-Strips - The Kit!

Here's what I learned in the process:

  1. DO A TEST PATCH FIRST. Your skin will thank you.
  2. Read the instructions and lock up your pets, my cat's tail got in one of my strips.
  3. Don't wimp out on your first strip. I left a bit of residue on my first one because I was afraid of yanking it, but I learned pretty quickly!
  4. Try to be meticulous and line up your strips in the right spot from the start or you'll be stuck with weird lines like me.
  5. Don't forget to use those wipes! My legs felt GREAT afterwards.

Overall I think this is a pretty solid kit. It took me four doubled sided strips (so, eight strips) to get through both my legs from the knees down. These strips are VERY ADHESIVE and you can get at least 2-3 pulls per strip, depending on your hair, but it does a good job pulling out hair at the root and leaving your skin smoother longer than shaving. I'll definitely grab a second one of these when I'm done the first kit, my sensitive skin really suffers from razor burn so I see the benefit of the slightly longer waxing process.

You can find Nair Wax Ready-Strips at your local drug store or places like Wal-Mart, Rexall and Shoppers Drug Mart for between $10-13.
