January, February 2014 Empties

I only started collecting my beauty empties mid-January of this year, so I'm missing a few products I finished while I was visiting family for the holidays, but this will just have to do for now.

Over the last month and a half I've made it my personal mission to finish half-bottles of products that are sitting around my home. From hand lotion to shampoo, body wash to bubble bath, you name it, I've been trying to finish it! I've been more successful with some products than others so next month you'll see some really and truly OLD products in my empties. But the sooner I finish these old ones, the sooner I can get some new ones!

So here they are, I didn't get a chance to use my camera so these are from my smartphone.

Quo Nail Polish w/ Parthenol and Vitamin E

I'm pretty partial to this SPECIFIC Quo nail polish remover. It works really well on glitter and gets most polish on just a few swipes. Just be VERY CAREFUL you don't buy the acetone-free one that has the same colour as this one, it's not nearly as good for removing darker nail polish colours or textured topcoats.

Would I rebuy? Yes, this is a staple in my cupboard.

Colgate Optic White Mouthwash

I got this in a promotion awhile ago and while the toothpaste and toothbrush was fine, I LOATHED this mouthwash more than words can say. I find that any of the "whitening" mouth washes or rinses are arguably the worst-tasting. It was just a chemical party in my mouth, blech.

Would I rebuy? ABSOLUTELY not.

The Body Shop Aloe Calming Toner

I was digging around in my bathroom lately and found this bottle of toner which I must've purchased over a year or so ago. It was mostly used up, with only about 20% left. I've polished it off now, but after my skincare detox week I prefer to use a little Apple Cider Vinegar and diluted water as my toner than this stuff.

Would I rebuy? No.

Pantene Aqua Light Conditioner

I've been using this line of Pantene products for a few years now. I used to believe that Pantene wasn't good for my hair and left a buildup of product and caused my hair to lose it's strength, but it turns out I was using the wrong TYPE of hair caire all along. Since my hair is thin, I needed something that was silicone-free so that my hair wasn't coated in a substance that prevented my hair from "breathing" and, while silicone in conditioner makes your hair appear healthier, it really isn't. My hair is so much more manageable with Aqua Light and while they are discontinuing it soon, their Nature Fusion is the next best bet.

Would I rebuy? Yes, but they have changed formulas and this one is no longer readily available.

Colgate Pro-Health Profresh Toothpaste

I don't have too much to say about this one. I received it in a promotional package and it's good enough for sensitive teeth and leaves your breath fresh.

Would I rebuy? Sure, if it was on sale.

Dove Clear Tone Sheer Touch Deodorant

I don't even remember why I bought this deodorant specifically, but I definitely didn't notice the benefits it claims to offer. I like Dove deodorant because it's good for sensitive skin and the scents are usually light. This one apparently reduces dark patches in your underarms but I honestly don't know if I ever even bothered to look at mine before or after. All I know is that it reduced the amount of perspiration and I smelled nice :)

Would I rebuy? Sure, if it's on sale.

The Healing Garden Jasmintherapy Shower Gel

I remember when I was a teen I used to get a big package of Healing Garden products from my Grandma every Christmas, but now I don't even know if they sell them anymore. I found this body wash in a travel kit bag and decided to finish it off. The scent was nice, but light, it didn't strike me as "jasmine" specifically, just "flowery", and it didn't give a big soapy payoff, but it was serviceable. It did NOT work as bubble bath however.

Would I rebuy? Nah.

Maybelline Volum' Express The Colossal

For a drug-store brand, this Maybelline mascara is allll right. I usually keep my higher-end mascaras at home and take my minis or drug-store ones for my "at work" makeup kit, but this was one that came everywhere with me, as you can see all the label rubbed off! It gives a big payoff for your lashes, but it requires a little bit of work to make sure it doesn't over-gloop on your lashes. The formula is thick so it can clump, but it definitely delivers that "colossal" look.

Would I rebuy? Maybe.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shampoo and Conditioner

I received these in a beauty box awhile ago and decided to give them a spin. Each foil had almost three washes in them, and while I definitely noticed softer hair, I didn't feel my colour changed or was enhanced.

Would I rebuy? Nah.

Julep Blank Canvas Primer

I received this as a sample in my January Julep box and I'm HOOKED. This small foil went a LONG way and I used it for almost a week. It definitely is the kind of primer you can use as a base for makeup, or just over top of your moisturizer. It made my skin look flawless and it felt amazing. I can't wait for my Benefit Porefessional to run out so I can buy a full-size of this Julep product immediately. I might even just nab it the next time I have a Julep discount code.

Would I rebuy? ABSOLUTELY, this is quality primer.

Sephora Brush-On Nourishing Cuticle Oil

As you can see, I bought this one a long time ago, because they now look like this. But that's part of the reason I love this cuticle oil so much, the stick actually held on to the oil until the bitter end and it lasted me AGES. It had a tea tree smell and worked very quickly to soften my cuticles. Now I have a homemade cuticle balm and another stick from Julep, but I would totally consider this product again. The only problem is that it appears the new stick has a different smell and doesn't hold the oil so well and it dries out/doesn't distribute the oil through the brush. Maybe this was the last, best one!

Would I rebuy? Yes, but not their current version with

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

To be honest, there might be a little product left in this package but I don't really care. This was one of the higher of the lower-end BB creams on the market and I was never really satisfied with the results. I felt it always left my skin super-greasy, forcing me to add more powder than I really wanted, and the colour was much less than a tinted moisturizer. I felt it was more effective to put on a moisturizer with SPF and brush on some bronzer instead. Other people I know really enjoyed it, so maybe it just wasn't right for my skin.

Would I rebuy? Nope.

Gosh Quad Eyeshadow Palette

While this palette doesn't offer much in the way of pigmentation or colour, I used quite a bit of it as long as I could. This was my "work makeup" so it was mostly used when I just needed a bit of quick makeup for a shift, or a meeting or something. I wasn't too impressed with the colour, as it never lasted that long, and I think cheaper products can give you more colour. Makeup Alley has some great reviews of the product too.

Would I rebuy? Not at all.

Oil of Olay 4 in 1 Daily Facial Cloths

For years I used to purchase the regular daily facial cloths that come in about a 30-40 count and cut them in half because they were so big and useful that I could get two washes per sheet. I accidentally purchased these ones instead last time and they have little holes and are more porous, which means I would have to use an entire sheet each time and went through them much quicker. It also made for a more abrasive wash which isn't good for my sensitive skin.

Would I rebuy? No, I've switched to wet face wipes instead.

So there you have it. My big winners for the month? Julep Blank Canvas Primer which is $22.40 if you are a Julep Maven or $28 normally, Quo nail polish remover which is around $3.50 at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pantene Aqua Light (which may not be easy to find anymore).
