Budget Beauty: Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive Collection
When I was younger, I totally associated Garnier products with their Fructis line which was BRIGHT and FRUITY and always smelled amazing. But the problem for me was that I tend to be a bit picky about my scents, and I found myself straying from the brand as I grew up. But now I'm happy to say that Garnier has grown up too, and this Whole Blends line offers some great alternatives for whatever your hair condition is!
The Garnier Whole Blends collection has a lot to love in it's bottles. They contain a blend of ingredients (Argan, Coconut Oil and Cocoa butter) that are sustainably grown and purchased, packaged in recyclable plastic and produced in a facility with significant reductions in waste in the last 10 years. But this doesn't mean anything if the product isn't good, does it? So let's see!
Garnier Whole Blends Replenishing Shampoo & Conditioner in Legendary Olive - Thoughts
Scent: As mentioned above, I have a bit of an aversion to overly scented products, especially hair or skincare. Luckily, this line has a very fresh, green scent that waftes while washing your hair in the shower but doesn't stay too long. It smells of green herbs, with a bit of verbena, but in a white floral way.
Feel: I really liked the lather that I got out of the shampoo, it didn't leave my hair squeaky clean and managed to refresh my scalp and help get all that dry shampoo and mousse dust out of the way. (What? Like you're any better!) I never felt like the shampoo was stripping my hair of any essential oils or anything, and it rinsed out nicely. When it came to the conditioner, a little bit went a LONG way and I found my hair was definitely more manageable after using the conditioner than the previous one I was using. It left my hair bouncy after I dried it, and I find I'm frequently able to do four days between washes to maintain my colour, something I find other conditioners make it hard to do.
The only down-side I found in this collection was the leave-in conditioner. It left my hair VERY THICK, greasy and heavy, with even just a small amount used in my hair. I have a shaggy, grown-out pixie cut so it could just be the current state of my head, but it didn't set well with me and I gave the bottle away. That said, I'm not generally a leave-in conditioner girl and prefer a serum or hair oil to deal with dry ends or to add texture.
Overall: I feel pretty good about this line. When it comes to the paraben-free/sulfate-free/silicon-free debate, I'm of a few minds. Everyone's hair is different, and while I've tried to go fully sulfate-free in the past, I found that those types of products don't really work for me. While on the other-hand, I absolutely KNOW that silicone based products wreck havoc on my hair. So while I really expect most products that I use to be paraben-free these days, the other two may just depend on your hair.
