Amie Naturally Kind Skincare Review
Attention beauty enthusiasts! There's a new player in town!
If you enjoy gentle skincare products that use naturally derived ingredients, like Burt's Bees and Say Yes to Carrots, then you might want to try out Amie, an established British skincare line which has recently landed crossed the pond to land at Shoppers Drug Mart.
Amie, Naturally Kind
All of the products in Amie's line use a variety of naturally derived ingredients and are free of parabens, mineral oils,
sulphates, GM ingredients or petrochemicals. Amie doesn't test on animals, and each of their products are vegetarian friendly and some are even vegan friendly, (the ones without beeswax obviously.)
To celebrate their recent burst into Canada, I got the chance to try out four of Amie's most popular products before they hit the shelves at Shoppers Drug Mart. The brand has a full line of skincare products, including toners, moisturizers, cleansers and wipes, and even a gentle make-up line. While the make-up hasn't made its way over yet, I'm sure that's just the next step.

And now, the reviews!
Matte-Finish Moisturiser
I really, truly, absolutely wanted to love this product because matte-finish moisturisers are not easy (NOR CHEAP) to come by. But the scent on this product, while natural and not perfume-based, was too strong for me. I really liked the results however, it leaves the skin with a nice finished look, making it easy to use as a base for a daily make-up routine.
Hydrating Daily Moisturiser
While this didn't fit my bill of being a good moisturizer to use as a base for make-up, I was really impressed with this moisturiser at the end of the day (literally, this is a hydrating moisturiser that is perfect to use in the evening.) While it also had a slightly strong smell like the previous moisturiser, it had a pleasant rose aroma and I wasn't bothered or irritated by it. It's not the easiest to put makeup over though, so I don't recommend it as a morning product.
Deep Cleaning Mask
I was the most excited to try the Deep Cleaning Mask, which claims to work to draw out dirt and impurities in the skin while soaking up excess oil to prevent zits. After a particularly cycling-heavy day, it's really refreshing to cover my face with the mask and let it do its work! This deep cleaning mask is a clay-type mask with a zesty, aromatic combination of mint and lime, which left my skin feeling refreshed and soothed afterwards, and not 'squeaky clean.'
Exfoliating Daily Wash
With a hearty scent of apples and lemons, this exfoliating wash is the perfect addition to your skincare routine. Now that I try to completely avoid micro-beads, I've yet to find a natural replacement that suits my exfoliating needs, but Amie's exfoliating wash is no slouch! Instead of using microbeads which are harsh and bad for the environment, Amie's product uses crushed blueberry seeds, leaving the skin cleansed and free from any oil or shine. I would argue that this is NOT a scrub you want to use daily if you have sensitive or dry skin. I used it a few days in a row and definitely felt it was too harsh for daily use on my skin, but YMMV.
Final Thoughts
I'm happy to welcome Amie to my cupboard of oddities. As a sensitive skin person, it can be a bit annoying to find companies constantly ignoring my needs (and the needs of SO many other people.) And while it can be hard to customize a skincare line for everybody's needs, Amie does a pretty great job making attractive products full of quality ingredients for people who don't just want to slather harsh chemicals all over their face. Don't believe me? Give it a try.
